You’ve heard the grass is greener on the other side. We want you to be the other side. We love when we get calls from customers who see the yards we service and want their yards to look just as good. When you refer these admiring friends, we will give you a $5 credit.
In Virginia, July is hot. It’s also humid, and it usually doesn’t rain much. During the summer your lawn will feel the effects of lots of sun and little water. To keep your lawn healthy make sure your irrigation system is running enough and that you are watering sufficiently in early morning. We offer season inspections to check your system and adjust your watering time for $45. If you need this let us know.
Fields is committed to lush, green lawns that are the best on the block no matter the weather. During the month of July, this means we are starting to book aerating, overseeding, and fertilizing. These services begin in late August and last through the first of October. Our competitors will try to sell you aerating and seeding in the spring, but grass planted in spring will not survive the summer heat. Please book early, so that your seed becomes established before you winterize your irrigation system and you can no longer water. Winterization starts October 12th.
Our Fall Aeration Program:
By spreading Tall Fescue, the recommended seed for our area, we keep your lawn looking thick and green all year. In comparison to Kentucky Blue grass and Zoysia, Tall Fescue’s root structure grows deeper and is more resilient to heat and drought. Seeding with Tall Fescue rejuvenates your whole lawn, especially bringing new life to thinning areas. If you have excessive shade in your yard there is hope —we offer a shade tolerant variety of Tall Fescue.
What’s in our bag:
We use Southern Lawn Maxx Coated Seed. This seed is Blue Tag certified, meaning its 100% weed free. If you check the levels on the bags from stores like Lowes or Home Depot, you will find they are not weed free. Southern Lawn Maxx grass seed contains a patented and proprietary coating proven to need less water and less fertilizer. It also grows with more color and longer roots, and its grass is more adaptable. Complimented by the trusted Southern Lawn brand, Maxx is pre-treated with groSMART technologies, allowing it to produce top-tier results. In three independent trials, Southern Lawn Maxx outperformed traditional straight tall fescue with 40% quicker germination.
By aerating with core aeration, we loosen up the soil to allow water, oxygen and other nutrients to reach the roots of your lawn and give new grass a place to grow. Core aeration is necessary to maintain the health of your yard especially if it sees heavy traffic.
Finally we jumpstart new seed growth with fertilization, crucial for strong grass.
We also recommend feeding the lawn two additional times before the end of the year. Fall Fertilization will be done four to six weeks after its aeration, seeding and starting fertilizer. Use a 14-0-2 with Axillo 5 micronutrient package. Then, to get it ready for winter, Winter Fertilization will be another four to six weeks with the same fertilizer. This gives the roots the food it needs to become established before the freezing temperatures set in.
